The Supreme Court has mandated that hotel and dhaba owners along the Kanwar Yatra route in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand prominently display their licenses and registration certificates, adhering to statutory regulations.
The bench, consisting of Justices M M Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh, clarified that the order does not extend to mandates requiring names or QR codes due to the yatra's impending conclusion. Last year, similar measures were halted to protect privacy rights.
The order addresses a plea by academician Apoorvanand Jha, highlighting privacy breaches from revealing religious and caste identities in compliance with recent mandates. The controversy follows the tradition where devotees perform rituals during 'Shravan'.
