Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court has approached the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing to challenge an in-house inquiry panel report that found him guilty of misconduct related to a cash discovery incident. The plea seeks immediate intervention.

Chief Justice B R Gavai, responding to senior advocate Kapil Sibal, indicated the necessity to form a proper bench to hear the matter. The Chief Justice, alongside Justices K Vinod Chandran and Joymalya Bagchi, acknowledged the constitutional concerns raised in Varma's petition.

The inquiry was led by Chief Justice Sheel Nagu of Punjab and Haryana High Court and involved examining 55 witnesses over a 10-day period. The investigation, stemming from a March fire incident at Varma's residence, has led to impeachment recommendations by former Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna.
