In an impactful verdict, a man hailing from Chamba district has been sentenced to a decade of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in charas smuggling. The pronouncement came from Special Sub Judge Mohit Bansal of the Bilaspur court, who has also fined Dinesh Kumar Rs 1 lakh.
The case originated on April 11, 2023, during a routine vehicle check at Lakhanpur by the Sadar police station team. Officers became suspicious upon encountering the driver's nervous demeanor and inability to provide clear documents, leading to a search.
Under the driver's seat, officers discovered nearly 2 kilograms of charas, sealed in three plastic packets. The comprehensive investigation, led by Additional District Prosecutor Abhay Gupta, presented compelling evidence and testimony from 16 witnesses, resulting in the defendant's conviction.
