The Delhi High Court issued a stern warning to a petitioner on Wednesday for filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) based merely on news reports without proper validation. The court advised the petitioner to conduct thorough research before pursuing legal action.
A bench comprising Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela dismissed the PIL that demanded regulation of external recruitment firms for public sector banks and allied institutions. The petition also sought investigations into alleged recruitment malpractices at Can Fin Homes Ltd, managed by Canara Bank.
The bench labeled the case as 'half-baked' after pointing out inconsistencies, including unverified newspaper claims of a whistleblower complaint. The judges stressed that news reports alone are insufficient evidence and encouraged the petitioner to approach appropriate bodies like SEBI or RBI for genuine grievances.
