A new recruit to the Border Security Force (BSF) has been arrested for robbing a jewellery store in Delhi using a toy gun, a high-ranking official confirmed on Wednesday. The arrested individual, Gaurav Yadav, apparently took cues from TV crime shows after he lost money in online gambling.
Yadav, 22, completed his training in May 2025 and was stationed at a BSF post in Fazilka, Punjab. On June 18, he traveled to Delhi on leave, allegedly planning the robbery while waiting to change trains. The crime took place on June 19 when Yadav entered Farsh Bazar jewellery store, brandishing a toy gun and making off with four gold bracelets.
The arrest came after a meticulous investigation that included analyzing CCTV footage and digital records. Police recovered two gold bracelets from Yadav's home, identified a bank account with Rs 2 lakh linked to the stolen items, and are continuing their investigations.
