Rajasthan HC Halts Defamation Proceedings Against Drishti IAS Founder

The Rajasthan High Court has intervened in a defamation case against Drishti IAS founder Dr. Vikas Divyakirti, which was underway in an Ajmer court. Justice Sameer Jain ordered a stay on proceedings, acting on Divyakirti's request to dismiss the defamation complaint filed against him.

The complaint originated from allegations of defamatory comments made by Dr. Divyakirti about the legal system and judiciary during one of his lectures. The matter was pursued by an advocate who filed a petition prompting the Ajmer court to summon Divyakirti, initially scheduling his appearance for July 22 with a subsequent order for August 2.

Arguing the case, advocates V R Bajwa and Sumeer Sodhi stated that Dr. Divyakirti's remarks were made in a closed environment, thereby not constituting defamation. They emphasized that he was exercising his fundamental right to free expression. The high court's stay reflects a recognition of these arguments.
