The Goa assembly has recently passed a pivotal bill aimed at revolutionizing the valuation process of civil suits, especially those involving land. This move is expected to significantly determine court jurisdictions more clearly.
Named the Goa Suits Valuation Bill, 2025, it gives the state government the authority, in collaboration with the high court, to devise rules for assessing land values across various districts, as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced in the assembly on the day of the legislation's passage.
This legislative change is set to standardize land valuation, bringing it in line with the Goa Court Fees Act, 2024, and replace older legislation from 1965, thereby ensuring consistency and reducing potential legal disputes.
