The Karnataka cabinet greenlit the transition of an existing ordinance concerning gig workers into a formal Bill, now set to be introduced in the upcoming legislature session. The "Karnataka Platform-Based Gig Workers (Social Security and Welfare) – 2025" Bill aims to extend social security benefits to the state's gig workforce, especially those in e-commerce and delivery roles.

H K Patil, the state Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, highlighted that approximately 2.30 lakh gig workers operate in Karnataka, partaking either on a full-time or part-time basis. To cater to this demographic, the government has initiated the Karnataka State Gig Workers Insurance Scheme, proposing Rs four lakh in total insurance coverage, with Rs two lakh allocated as life insurance in case of accidental death.

In related decisions, the Cabinet renewed the lease of Rangashankara, a non-profit for performing arts, allowing a concession due to financial constraints. Additionally, the Cabinet approved the early release of 46 life convicts and three others pending union government consent, aligning with rehabilitation recommendations.
