In a significant bust, Maharashtra police seized 39 kilograms of amphetamine, valued at a whopping Rs 50 crore, in Jalgaon district, officials reported Friday.
Three individuals were detained in connection to what authorities suspect is an international drug racket. Police, acting on a tip-off, stopped a car on Chalisgaon's national highway late Thursday, unearthing the substantial drug haul.
Authorities have launched a special task force to trace the drug's intended recipient in Bengaluru. Amphetamine, commonly known on the streets as speed or crystal meth, is a potent central nervous system stimulant, with both medical applications and a troubling trend of recreational abuse among youngsters.
