The Delhi High Court has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to respond to a petition by Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, seeking interim bail to participate in the current Monsoon session of Parliament.
Rashid, who is also challenging the trial court's order requiring him to cover a daily travel expense of Rs 1.44 lakh, argues this financial burden prevents him from carrying out his parliamentary duties. A bench, comprising Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Shalinder Kaur, has scheduled the case for a further hearing on July 29.
Arrested in 2019 by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Baramulla MP faces charges related to terror funding. Rashid, currently detained in Tihar jail, previously defeated Omar Abdullah in the 2024 elections and maintains the costs impede his representation of the public at large in Parliament.
