The conflict over the waters of the Mahadayi River flared anew as Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant fiercely responded to what he termed as an offensive remark by Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister, D K Shivakumar. Claiming Shivakumar's comments showcased 'Congress culture', Sawant vowed further legal action.
Goa has staunchly opposed Karnataka's Kalasa-Banduri project, aimed at diverting the river's waters. This project seeks to augment drinking water in several Karnataka districts, but Goa warns it threatens local ecology.
With the Supreme Court still deliberating over the water sharing dispute, Goa remains committed to legal avenues, striving to protect its water rights and ecological interests. The Union government had previously notified a tribunal's verdict, allocating water shares in 2020.
