In a poignant case highlighting the harsh realities of poverty, police in Odisha's Bolangir district have rescued a 28-day-old baby girl allegedly sold by her parents for Rs 20,000. Authorities discovered the infant at a residence in Paikamal, Bargarh district, bringing her to safety with assistance from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
No formal complaints have been filed yet, as officials focus on the child's welfare. 'Our priority was the infant's rescue,' said Lina Babu, in-charge chairperson of the Bolangir district CWC. Meanwhile, investigations are set to commence to uncover the circumstances surrounding this distressing incident.
The incident came to light from Titlagarh sub-division's Bagdera village, underlining the dire financial situation of the baby's biological parents, Nila and Kanak Rana. Denying any monetary transaction, the couple stated that their intention was to provide for the child's upbringing due to their financial constraints.
