Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu voiced strong objections on Monday to remarks made by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla concerning the state's handling of drug rehabilitation efforts. Sukhu asserted that such critiques are unbecoming of a constitutional officeholder.

Governor Shukla had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the sparse availability of government-run rehabilitation centers. He warned that without urgent intervention, Himachal Pradesh might face a situation similar to 'Udta Punjab' within five years.

Chief Minister Sukhu countered by highlighting significant strides taken by his administration against drug abuse, including using the PIT-NDPS Act to detain repeat offenders and seizing illegally acquired properties worth Rs 43 crore. Efforts to map the state's panchayats are also underway, aiming to identify and curb drug-related activities at the grassroots level.
