This week, Delhi Police made a breakthrough in a sophisticated cyber fraud case involving a considerable sum of Rs 3.75 lakh. Two suspects, Ahtisham and Mukesh Luthra, were apprehended for allegedly swindling a resident under the pretext of providing a lucrative work-from-home opportunity.

The accused orchestrated a well-crafted scheme to attract victims by initially offering small payouts for fake online tasks, such as product reviews. As trust was built, victims were coerced into pumping more money into pre-paid tasks, promising higher returns, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest), Amit Goel.

An investigation was launched after a complaint was lodged on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. The scam's complexity was unraveled when Rs 1 lakh was traced to Ahtisham's account, tagged with cryptographic laundering by the co-accused Mukesh Luthra through cryptocurrency transactions to conceal the financial trail.
