On July 26, 2025, a team of nearly 100 police personnel, led by an assistant commissioner, simultaneously raided 12 sites, including five apartment complexes. These operations resulted in the seizure of 166 grams of ganja, 5,250 ganja chocolates, illicit hookah items, unauthorized tobacco products, and 10 mobile phones used for drug sales.
The crackdown was focused within the suburbs of Potheri, Marimalai Nagar, and Kattankulatur under Tambaram city police's oversight. The police have registered multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act. Efforts continue to trace drug networks and dismantle organized peddling syndicates.
