Supreme Court Upholds Water Distribution Order Amid Punjab-Haryana Dispute
The Supreme Court declined to review Punjab's plea against a high court order mandating the release of 4,500 cusecs of extra water to Haryana. Punjab argued it had already exceeded its humanitarian contribution, while the BBMB's decision was backed by federal directives, emphasizing the emotive nature of this issue.

The Supreme Court on Monday chose not to examine the Punjab government's challenge to a directive that it release additional water to Haryana, affirming an earlier order by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
In a case that underscores the emotive tensions between the two states, senior advocate Abhishek M Singhvi, representing Punjab, argued that the state had already extended 4,000 extra cusecs beyond its allocation and fulfilling the additional demand was unreasonable.
The Bhakra Beas Management Board's decision to release 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana had the backing of a high-level federal meeting, with Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stressing cooperative compliance among Indian states.
