In a plea for urgent assistance, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sanction an area-specific relief package to aid victims of recent natural calamities in Himachal Pradesh. Flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides have wreaked havoc in the region, causing extensive damage.

Thakur met with the prime minister in New Delhi, informing him that the state has endured losses exceeding Rs 1,200 crore, with the Seraj Assembly constituency suffering a substantial portion of this damage. He reported a grim toll of 42 lives lost and hundreds of homes affected.

Thakur emphasized the critical situation in Syathi village, where residents are displaced and without shelter. He urged prompt reconstruction aid. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu acknowledged the BJP's efforts but stressed the need for timely intervention. The state government is engaging with the World Bank for additional support.
