New York City detectives are piecing together clues to understand why Shane Tamura embarked on a deadly shooting spree in Midtown Manhattan, ending with his own death. On Monday evening, Tamura fatally shot four people, including a police officer, before turning the gun on himself on the 33rd floor of a Park Avenue skyscraper.

The gunman was identified as a 27-year-old from Las Vegas with a history of mental illness. He armed himself with an M4 carbine, a military-style rifle, and traveled cross-country over three days to execute his attack. Authorities have yet to determine his motive for targeting the office tower housing NFL headquarters and major financial firms.

Among the victims was NYPD officer Didarul Islam, praised by Mayor Eric Adams as a 'true blue' hero. The shooter allowed one person to escape before continuing his deadly rampage, leaving a city grappling with shock and searching for answers in the aftermath of the tragedy.
