In a powerful address to the Rajya Sabha, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh reaffirmed India’s unflinching commitment to eradicate terrorism in all its forms, stating that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the country has evolved from reactive postures to becoming a proactive force capable of “going to the root of terrorism and uprooting it.” His remarks came amid resounding applause following the recent successful Operation Sindoor, a military response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

Operation Sindoor: A Message to the World

Shri Rajnath Singh emphasized that Operation Sindoor was not merely a military action but a strategic statement of India's political will, military precision, and national resolve. Initiated after the brutal killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, the operation was a measured yet powerful retaliatory strike deep into Pakistani territory.

“It was a demonstration of India’s military capability and strategic maturity. Our forces crossed 100 km inside Pakistan and destroyed nine terrorist hideouts. More than 125 terrorists were neutralized,” said the Defence Minister.

Shri Singh made it clear that Operation Sindoor is not over, only halted temporarily. He warned Pakistan and other state or non-state actors, stating, “If Pakistan attempts anything similar again, the response will be even more intense and decisive.”

Strategic Autonomy and National Strength

Highlighting the broader philosophy driving India’s national security doctrine, Shri Singh asserted that India now gives a befitting reply and does not succumb to nuclear blackmail or diplomatic pressure. “The era of strategic restraint is over. India acts with responsibility but does not shy away from defending its sovereignty,” he declared.

He added that India is not only defending its borders but is also laying the foundation of strategic, technological, and economic strength, thereby securing its future.

PoK Reunification: A Matter of Time

Responding to demands from some political quarters for reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) during Operation Sindoor, Shri Singh made a bold statement:

“The day is not far when the people of PoK will voluntarily become part of India. Their hearts still beat for India.”

Pakistan: A Global Hub of Terrorism

In a scathing critique of Pakistan, Shri Rajnath Singh said:

“While India is celebrated globally as the ‘Mother of Democracy,’ Pakistan has become the ‘Father of Global Terrorism.’”

He cited Pakistan’s continued support for designated terrorists like Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar, and pointed to senior Pakistani military officers attending terrorists’ funerals as evidence of state complicity.

He condemned the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) appointment of Pakistan as Vice-Chair of the Counter-Terrorism Panel, comparing it to “making a cat guard the milk.”

Call for Global Action and a Permanent Solution

The Raksha Mantri called terrorism an epidemic that must be eradicated entirely and not allowed to die a natural death. He appealed to the international community to impose strict diplomatic and economic sanctions on nations like Pakistan that finance and harbor terrorism.

“Funding Pakistan is funding terrorism,” he said. “It is time the world sees through Pakistan’s duality.”

Pahalgam Attack and India’s Swift Justice

He praised the Indian Army and intelligence agencies for their swift action in neutralizing the three TRF terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam massacre. Forensic analysis linked the weapons recovered in Dachigam directly to the attack, confirming their role in the killings.

“This wasn’t just revenge; this was justice delivered through law and operational excellence,” he noted.

Aatmanirbhar Bharat in Defence: Transforming from Importer to Exporter

Shri Singh proudly underscored the dramatic transformation in India's defence manufacturing capabilities under the Modi government. From total dependence on imports, India now produces:

  • Aircraft carriers

  • Missiles (Agni, Prithvi, BrahMos)

  • Fighter aircraft

  • Tanks and armoured vehicles

“Earlier we bought; now we build,” he said. “Our forces are equipped with both imported systems and indigenously developed platforms.”

Budget Growth and Export Boom

Highlighting India’s defence growth metrics:

Parameter 2013–14 2024–25 Growth
Defence Budget ₹2.53 lakh crore ₹6.21 lakh crore ~3x Increase
Defence Exports ₹686 crore ₹23,622 crore ~35x Increase
Target by 2029 ₹50,000 crore In Progress

India now exports defence products to nearly 100 countries, with a goal of hitting ₹30,000 crore in 2025–26 and ₹50,000 crore by 2029.

Emergency Procurement and Operational Readiness

Shri Singh informed the House that the government has authorized emergency procurement powers to fast-track acquisitions critical for operational readiness. “Our forces must never wait for approval when national security is at stake,” he said.

Vision for the Future: No Tolerance, No Terrorism

Ending his address, Shri Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism, stating:

“India has changed. Those who harm us will be met with iron resolve. Terrorism will be uprooted—not tomorrow, but now.”

He praised the Armed Forces for their bravery, discipline, and maturity during and after Operation Sindoor, and urged the international community to join hands in building a future free of terror, driven by peace, democracy, and prosperity.
