An SIT began exhuming suspected human remains in a forest area near Netravati bathing ghat in Dharmasthala, amidst tight security due to serious allegations of mass burials.

Forensic experts from KMC Hospital, Mangaluru, joined the operation to aid the scientific recovery of skeletal remains. The site was identified during a preliminary inspection.
