Scorned Love: Arrest Follows Social Media Misstep

A 27-year-old man from Odisha's Jajpur district was arrested on charges of damaging a woman's reputation by sharing intimate photos online, police reported. The accused, Samir Kumar Palei, was apprehended following a complaint by his former partner.

Palei, who works for a private finance company, had been in a two-year relationship with the woman, a colleague. Their relationship ended in June when the woman severed communication, blocking his contact number.

Outraged by the breakup, Palei allegedly uploaded the pictures on social media, which came to the attention of the woman's family. After she reported the incident, Panikoili police registered the case and arrested him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act.
