Supreme Court Critiques Handling of 2000-Person Cash-for-Jobs Scam in Tamil Nadu

The Supreme Court has rebuked Tamil Nadu for implicating over 2000 individuals in the cash-for-jobs scam linked to former minister V Senthil Balaji. The Court demanded a detailed list of accused and witnesses, describing the trial's management as disorganized and voicing concerns over the state's apparent reluctance to prosecute diligently.

Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi remarked that a courtroom couldn't accommodate the number of accused, humorously suggesting a stadium might be necessary. They emphasized the need for a special prosecutor, citing fears that a sole prosecutor might struggle against influential accused, including Balaji.

Balaji, who resigned amid judicial pressure, was reappointed shortly after obtaining bail in a related money-laundering case. The apex court highlighted the protracted nature of the trial and the improbability of its resolution soon, noting Balaji's substantial time spent incarcerated.
