An Indian national has been sentenced to 13 weeks in jail by a Singapore court for his involvement in a job scam, as reported by The Straits Times. Charanjeet Singh, aged 20, was found guilty of cheating and using forged documents to deceive a domestic worker into paying over SGD 2,000 for fabricated job offers for her relatives.
The court learned that Singh met the 29-year-old domestic worker in October 2024 and deceptively offered to secure employment for her relatives in Singapore, charging Rs 2,50,000 per applicant. The victim transferred SGD 2,135 to Singh, who sent her falsified Ministry of Manpower documents in return.
The scam was uncovered when the victim's employer checked the Ministry of Manpower's website and discovered that no such applications existed. After being confronted, Singh falsely claimed visibility of approvals required full payment, and later became untraceable. He was arrested in April after the victim filed a police report in December.
