Trinamool Congress MP Dev revealed on Wednesday that an updated blueprint for the Ghatal Master Plan is underway to cut the land needed for the project by 40%.
During a press conference following a review in his constituency, Adhikari assured that the project would be concluded within three years from its start date. He emphasized the complexity of the initiative, which includes river interlinking to manage floodwater flow efficiently.
The Bengali film star, serving as the MP for Ghatal, noted that land acquisition for the project would commence shortly, with various departments actively streamlining the process. Dev dismissed critiques regarding delays, highlighting financial backing from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee amounting to Rs 500 crore, with total project costs estimated at up to Rs 1,500 crore.
Originally devised to safeguard the Ghatal subdivision in Paschim Medinipur from frequent floods due to river overflows, the project encompasses constructing embankments, sluice gates, drainage channels, and a barrage to control water flow.
