The Maharashtra government is intensifying its efforts to address the issue of illegal Bangladeshi nationals residing in the state by canceling fraudulent birth certificates. By August 15, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced, birth certificates deemed fake will be revoked as part of a crackdown on individuals living illegally in the region.

Bawankule highlighted that 42,000 such cases have been identified, with the actual numbers likely higher as officials continue their investigation. These fake certificates are required to be reported to the Department of Revenue and the Department of Health for further action.

A previous allegation by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya led to the suspension of officials in Malegaon after 3,997 forged certificates were discovered. The state has been actively pursuing illegal residents, deporting hundreds over the past few years, underscoring efforts to enforce legal residency within Maharashtra's borders.
