U.S. to Impose New Tariffs on Indian Imports
U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on Indian imports starting Aug. 1, citing high Indian tariffs and non-monetary trade barriers. He criticized India for its military and energy ties with Russia. India's commerce ministry has yet to comment.

In a significant move, President Donald Trump declared on Wednesday that the United States will set a 25% tariff on goods imported from India beginning August 1. This development marks a surge in trade tensions between the two nations.
Trump, expressing his dissatisfaction, highlighted that India will face additional, yet unspecified penalties starting the same day. He criticized India for maintaining high tariffs and imposing stringent non-monetary trade barriers, deeming them among the most rigorous worldwide.
Citing India's substantial military equipment purchases from Russia and its status as a major buyer of Russian energy, Trump remarked that these actions were undesirable amidst global calls for Russia to halt its military actions in Ukraine. India's commerce ministry, responsible for trade talks with the U.S., has not commented on these developments.
