The Chhattisgarh government unveiled new regulations on Wednesday aimed at curbing illegal sand mining. The move, announced at a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, includes measures like electronic auctions to boost transparency, according to officials.
In a decisive step, the cabinet repealed previous rules, replacing them with the 'Chhattisgarh Minor Mineral (Sand Mining and Trade) Rules, 2025'. These rules focus on maintaining environmental standards and ensuring fair pricing for the public. Amendments were also made to the Chhattisgarh District Mineral Foundation Trust Rules, in line with Union Ministry guidelines.
Significantly, the cabinet approved changes in agricultural land valuation and allotted land for a new cricket academy in Nava Raipur. These developments emphasize a comprehensive approach towards urban development and resource allocation in the state.
