Government sources have stated that claims made by Kerala-based cleric Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musaliyar regarding the case of Nimisha Priya, an Indian national on death row in Yemen, are inaccurate. Musaliyar had claimed that Priya's death sentence was overturned, which officials have refuted.
The sources advised the public to avoid speculative discussions, emphasizing the sensitivity of the case. They confirmed that Indian authorities are working with Yemeni officials and allies to reach an agreeable solution for Priya, who is accused of murder and was sentenced in 2020.
The stay of Priya's execution, initially set for July 16, occurred after intervention by Indian diplomats, as India lacks a diplomatic presence in Yemen. Efforts led by officials stationed in Saudi Arabia continue on this front.
