This week, a state-level workshop in Maharashtra highlighted the urgent need for an all-encompassing approach to combat human trafficking. Leading figures called for improved coordination among governmental bodies, civil society, and NGOs, stressing the integration of technological tools to boost conviction rates in trafficking cases.
The event, organized by the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, coincided with the World Day against Trafficking in Persons. Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe underscored the significance of a united front, including legal services and law enforcement, as necessary components to effectively tackle the issue, while Minister Aditi Tatkare announced policy revisions to include anti-trafficking measures.
The workshop also noted recent successes, such as Operation Muskan's efforts in tracing missing women and children, and ongoing international collaborations in repatriating trafficking victims. A partnership with Meta aims to swiftly address social media crimes, further underlining the state's proactive stance against human trafficking.
