Manipur Peace Efforts Drive Extended President's Rule Approval

The Lok Sabha has approved the extension of President's Rule in Manipur for another six months beyond August 13. The Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, asserted that peace has been prevailing in the northeastern state, with minimal casualties reported since the central rule was imposed in February.

Rai refuted claims of religious conflict, emphasizing that the disruptions in Manipur were ethnic. He assured that dialogues between communities are underway to ensure lasting peace. The minister mentioned that President's Rule remains crucial for maintaining law and order in the region.

Despite opposition from some Congress members demanding fresh elections, the extension was supported by TDP member Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu, who highlighted its role in rebuilding trust in India's Constitution and governance. The resolution highlights the central government's commitment to restoring stability in Manipur.
