The Jharkhand High Court has taken a firm stance by summoning urban development and water resources department secretaries to appear in person on July 31. This action is part of ongoing proceedings concerning a public interest litigation (PIL) focused on water conservation efforts.
The division bench, led by Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, has also mandated the appearance of the Ranchi Deputy Commissioner and Ranchi Municipal Corporation Administrator. The court is responding to reports that encroachments around key water bodies, including the Kanke, Dhruva, and Getalsud dams, remain unaddressed despite previous orders.
Earlier, the court had instructed the state government to establish a task force to tackle encroachments impacting water resources. The continued presence of obstructions underscores the challenges facing environmental conservation in the region, highlighting the need for immediate action.
