UK and Oman Commit to Strengthen Ties in Energy, Defense, and Peace Efforts

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said have agreed to bolster cooperation across several key sectors, including energy, technology, and defense. This development was confirmed by a spokesperson from Downing Street.
The meeting, held in London, also touched on pivotal UK-Gulf Cooperation Council trade negotiations. Both leaders highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian relief in Gaza, emphasizing that the situation there "cannot continue." Starmer informed the Sultan about his recent talks with international leaders, and both concurred on the necessity of establishing a longer-term peace plan that allows for future recognition.
Furthermore, Starmer stated Britain's intent to acknowledge a Palestinian state in September if Israel does not take adequate steps to address the Gaza situation and promote peace. On the topic of Iran, Starmer expressed gratitude to the Sultan for Oman's persistent diplomatic endeavors to avoid conflict resurgence in the region.
