The Catholic Association of Shillong has called on Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to address the arrests of nuns Preethi Merry and Vandana Francis. They were detained on charges of human trafficking and forced conversion, which the Association claims are without merit and driven by communal bias.
According to the Association, the nuns were accompanying three women with parental consent for job opportunities. It described the incident as a severe violation of constitutional rights and an infringement on the rights of minorities to practice faith freely.
The Association also accused Bajrang Dal members of inciting these arrests and stressed the need for immediate action to safeguard minority rights and prevent the misuse of anti-conversion laws.
