Discussions included Syria's new president attending an upcoming summit and strengthening future ties between the nations through newly formed committees.

In a significant diplomatic encounter, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov welcomed Syria's new Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani to Moscow. This meeting marked the first visit by a top official from the new Syrian government following the overthrow of former ally Bashar al-Assad last December.
Lavrov expressed hopes that Syria's new President Ahmed al-Sharaa would attend the forthcoming Russia-Arab League summit. This summit, slated for October 15, is set to foster relations between Russia and Arab League member states. Lavrov underscored Russia's continued alliance with Syria despite regime changes.
