Verdict Twist: Malegaon and Mumbai Blasts Cases
The Malegaon blast verdict acquitted all accused, marking a setback for the Maharashtra ATS following a similar outcome in the Mumbai train blasts case. The courts cited unreliability and errors in evidence. Originally pinned on right-wing extremists, the cases highlight lapses in investigations by ATS and NIA.

The verdict in the 2008 Malegaon blast case has stirred controversy after all seven accused were acquitted, marking a second significant setback for the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in recent weeks.
Previously, on July 22, the Bombay High Court had acquitted eleven accused in the 2006 Mumbai serial train blasts case, another significant investigation led by the ATS.
This latest verdict, delivered on Thursday by Special Judge A K Lahoti, pointed to insufficient evidence and procedural missteps. The investigation, initially handled by the ATS, later moved to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), revealing gaps in the case structure against figures such as Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt Col Prasad Purohit.
