In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Assam Police have apprehended Thanglienlal Hmar, also known as Boya, in connection with the killing of six Meiteis in Manipur's Jiribam district. The arrest was made in Cachar district based on intelligence inputs, according to Cachar SSP Numal Mahatta.
Hmar is alleged to have played a pivotal role in the logistics of the abduction and subsequent murder of three women and three children. Reports indicate that he used his boat to transport the victims and the assailants, attired in camouflage, from Jakuradhar Ghat to Kaisalpunjee village Ghat.
The NIA has been monitoring Hmar's activities for several months, with his arrest marking a crucial breakthrough in the case. The victims were discovered murdered near the Assam-Manipur border last November, a case that the Union Home Ministry transferred to the NIA amid rising ethnic tensions in the region.
