In a significant breakthrough, the Punjab Police announced on Thursday that it has dismantled an illegal opioid supply network. Six individuals have been arrested, and a large cache of Tramadol tablets has been seized.
According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, the investigation initiated from a minor recovery of 35 tablets in Amritsar and subsequently exposed a manufacturing unit in Haridwar as the source. Over the span of 15 days, the police managed to confiscate 74,465 Tramadol tablets, 50 Alprazolam tablets, raw material, and substantial cash.
The arrests include key figures like Hari Kishore of Lucent Biotech and other associates involved in the racket. Concerns have been raised over the illegal diversion of 'government supply only' medical stock, prompting further raids and sealing of non-compliant pharma units.
