Opposition Demands Scrutiny on Bihar Electoral Revision
The opposition INDIA bloc has called for parliamentary discussions on Bihar's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, expressing concerns over citizenship proof requirements. They argue this could violate Constitutional rights and have staged protests during the Monsoon session, planning further demonstrations against the Election Commission's actions.

Opposition MPs of the INDIA bloc have raised multiple notices in Parliament, demanding scrutiny of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The contentious exercise has prompted calls for discussion under parliamentary procedures in both Houses on Friday.
An opposition leader indicated that adjournment motions in the Lok Sabha and discussions under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha have been sought. Rule 267 facilitates discussions by permitting the suspension of specific rules for addressing particular issues.
The opposition claims that requiring citizenship proof for the SIR is unconstitutional and could infringe on legislative rights reserved for Parliament by Article 11. Criticism is mounting against the Election Commission as INDIA bloc parties intensify their protests both inside and outside of Parliament, with plans for a march to the Election Commission headquarters next week.
