In a tragic incident, five elite policemen were killed when bandits attacked a police checkpoint in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, Pakistan. The perpetrators, numbering around 40, used rocket launchers and grenades against the police force, Inspector-General Usman Anwar revealed.
The attack, described as 'cowardly,' occurred at night, leaving three officers from Bahawalnagar and two from Rahim Yar Khan dead, as confirmed in an official statement. During the retaliatory exchange, one of the bandits was killed.
Authorities swiftly sealed the area and launched a comprehensive search operation for the attackers. The Kacha region, known for criminal activities like kidnappings and extortion, has been under the influence of such groups for the past two decades, local media reports indicate.
