Court Dismisses $1.7 Billion Lawsuit Against BT Over Telecom Charges
London's Court of Appeal rejected a 1.3 billion-pound lawsuit against BT, alleging the telecom giant overcharged millions for fixed phone lines. The Competition Appeal Tribunal previously ruled in BT's favor. Justin Le Patourel, representing affected customers, was denied a chance to challenge the decision.

In a significant legal development, London's Court of Appeal has dismissed a 1.3 billion-pound lawsuit filed against British telecommunications giant BT, which faced accusations of overcharging millions of its customers for fixed telephone lines.
The legal dispute, spearheaded by Justin Le Patourel on behalf of approximately 3.7 million BT customers, alleged that BT excessively hiked prices for standalone fixed voice connections from 2009 to 2017.
While the dismissal marks a pivotal conclusion to the first opt-out collective action trial under Britain's class action regime, Le Patourel expressed disappointment but remains optimistic about the potential of collective actions in enforcing competition law compliance.
