A 35-year-old man was detained at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for allegedly sending threatening emails to former MLA Zeeshan Siddique. The accused, identified as Mohammad Dilshad Naved from Bihar, demanded an extortion sum of Rs 10 crore and was linked to the 'D gang', a reference to the Dawood Ibrahim gang.
The emails were sent in April from Trinidad and Tobago, where Naved was working at his uncle's shop. The Anti Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch traced the emails back to him after viewing YouTube videos regarding the murder of Baba Siddique, Zeeshan Siddique's father and a former Maharashtra minister.
The Mumbai police, collaborating with Interpol, issued a Lookout Circular, leading to Naved's arrest upon his return to India. The case, initially registered at the Bandra police station, was later transferred for detailed investigation, showcasing the reach and effectiveness of the city's anti-crime units.
