A local court has convicted 38 individuals for their involvement in the 2018 Syana violence incident, which tragically resulted in the death of two individuals, including a senior police officer. The verdict marks the conclusion of a seven-year legal process.
Special Public Prosecutor Yashpal Singh Raghav reported that the sentencing was officially delivered by the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) Gopal Ji. Five of the convicted individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment for charges including murder under the Indian Penal Code, while the remaining 33 received seven-year sentences for arson and damaging public property.
The violence erupted in December 2018 in Chingrawathi village over suspicions of cow slaughter, quickly escalating into chaos as rumors spread and resulted in a blockade. The police attempted to control the situation, but the mob retaliated with stone-pelting and arson, leading to the tragic demise of Syana station house officer Subodh Kumar Singh.
