Kolhapur Set to Host New High Court Bench, Easing Legal Access

The Bombay High Court is set to expand its reach with the establishment of a new bench in Kolhapur, scheduled to begin operations on August 18, 2025. This marks the fourth bench in Maharashtra, alongside Mumbai, Nagpur, and Aurangabad, as well as one in neighboring Goa.
Chief Justice Alok Aradhe released the notification, highlighting the collaborative effort with Maharashtra's Governor and support from judiciary leaders, including Chief Justice of India B R Gavai. The Kolhapur bench will reportedly serve six districts, easing the travel burdens for litigants who previously had to journey to Mumbai.
Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to social media to express his satisfaction with what he termed a 'historic development,' emphasizing that this move will significantly enhance judicial access and efficiency, benefiting both citizens and legal professionals.
