A special court in India has acquitted seven individuals linked to the 2008 Malegaon blast case, challenging and rejecting claims made by a former Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer. The claims suggested that the officer had orders to arrest RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, a notion dismissed by the court.

Special NIA Judge A K Lahoti, in a comprehensive judgment spanning over 1000 pages, dismissed contentions by the defense that relied heavily on former ATS officer Mehboob Mujawar's statements. Mujawar alleged he was tasked with arresting Bhagwat to establish a narrative of 'saffron terror'.

The court countered these statements, stating ACP Mohan Kulkarni, the then chief investigating officer, never instructed Mujawar to detain any RSS member. Instead, Mujawar's task was to locate two absconding suspects, Ramji Kalsangra and Sandeep Dange.
