In a bold accusation, Samik Bhattacharya, the President of West Bengal BJP, targeted the TMC government on Friday, alleging a 'dangerous conspiracy' to incorporate illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, into electoral rolls. He asserted this move as a desperate attempt by TMC to cling to power.
Speaking at a press conference, Bhattacharya claimed the TMC is protecting infiltrators and pressuring Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to maintain bogus voter lists for the upcoming 2026 assembly elections. 'From Barasat to Madhyamgram, fake voter cards are given to Bangladeshi nationals,' he alleged.
The BJP demands a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal's electoral rolls, questioning the state's governance and highlighting economic decline, such as the reduction of industrial units in the Falta Special Economic Zone. Bhattacharya criticized the TMC's focus on Bengali identity to cover governance failures, while a senior TMC leader dismissed the claims as 'communal rhetoric.'
