Former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Faces 12-Year Sentence for Bribery

Former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe is facing a 12-year prison sentence for charges of abuse of process and bribery, according to local reports on Friday. This announcement comes ahead of a scheduled hearing where Judge Sandra Liliana Heredia will formally deliver the sentence.

The charges stem from a long-running witness-tampering case that has lasted for approximately 13 years. Uribe maintains his innocence, despite being convicted on Monday by Judge Heredia.

Besides the prison sentence, Heredia may also impose a fine on Uribe. She will decide whether he remains free, is placed under house arrest, or is jailed during any appeal of the case.
