The Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested Sohbat Khan, an Afghan national, for allegedly obtaining an Indian passport using forged documents, a police official reported Friday.
Following a tip-off about Afghan nationals residing illegally in Jabalpur, the ATS acted on the intelligence. According to an MP police headquarters statement, Khan lived in Jabalpur for ten years and married a local woman. He not only secured an Indian passport using fake documents but also facilitated the issuance of fraudulent passports for Afghan friends in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh by leveraging false addresses in Jabalpur.
The ATS has so far uncovered around 20 cases of Afghan youths involved in attempting to obtain Indian passports through these means. Additional arrests include Dinesh Garg, a forest guard, and Mahendra Kumar Sukhdan, as the investigation into the forgery operation continues.
