A special court has acquitted all seven accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, amid serious allegations of witness coercion by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).
A witness in the trial claimed that ATS officers tortured him to falsely implicate prominent figures such as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the incident, according to the judgment released on Friday.
The court found the witness's statement to be given involuntarily, rendering it unreliable for use in the case, which has been marred by doubts over the authenticity and admissibility of evidence.
