In a significant legal development, a special court in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, has granted bail to two nuns from Kerala and another individual, amidst charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion. The court's decision was contingent upon their surrendering of passports and agreement to remain within the country.
The bail, issued by Principal District and Sessions Judge Sirajuddin Qureshi, followed deliberations on Friday. Defence lawyer Amrito Das revealed that apart from the bond requirement of Rs 50,000 and sureties, the accused must cooperate with ongoing investigations.
The arrests have sparked political tension, with Congress and CPI(M) criticizing police actions, while Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai argued against political exploitation of the issue. Meanwhile, alleged victim attempts to file FIRs against Bajrang Dal activists further complicate the narrative.
