The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), and a significant Catholic organization in Kerala expressed satisfaction over the release on bail of two nuns arrested in Chhattisgarh. The arrests stemmed from alleged human trafficking and forced conversions, which local leaders insist are politically motivated.
A special NIA court in the Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh granted conditional bail to three individuals, including the two nuns from Kerala. The trio was apprehended on July 25 at Durg railway station following accusations by a Bajrang Dal member related to the conversion and trafficking of three girls from Narayanpur.
General Education Minister V Sivankutty described the bail as 'heartening,' attributing the nuns' arrest to political maneuvering. He criticized the BJP for neglecting minority persecutions in its governed states, urging collective resistance against attempts to undermine constitutional rights. Likewise, the Catholic Bishops Conference of India advocated for the case's dismissal, citing falsely driven charges.
